Note: Currently, this model works only for Windows users.

This model shows a house in a field with the sun moving overhead. When the model is run (click the button), the sun moves around the earth as it would be seen from the house. It moves on the dome of the sky with the house at its center. The yellow grid shows the possible range of the sun's position over the year for the chosen latitude.

  1. Use the "Date," "Time," and "Latitude" buttons on the tool bar to change time of day, time of year, and latitude. You can also drag the sun to explore the relationships.
  2. Click the button to show the sun's path in the sky for the selected date and latitude.
  3. Enter your latitude (for example, Boston is 40° N or +40).
  4. Look at the table that you filled out in the workbook. Use the model to check, qualitatively, the accuracy of each of the facts that you wrote in the table.

After you completed the task, answer the questions in your workbook.
