The amount of thermal energy transferred from a surface area *A* per unit time Δ*t*
through convection of fluid is approximately determined by the following relationship:

ΔQ/Δt=-hA(T-T_{∞})

where *T* is the temperature of the surface, *T*_{∞} is the temperature of the environment,
and *h* is the convective heat transfer coefficient of the fluid.
