    Hi Charles,

    Here’s what’s going on:

    1. I’m having my students design houses in SketchUp. They then export the Collada file and subsequently import into Energy3D.

    2. When we try to add a solar panel on the roof, we get the following error message (see attached), “Adding SolarPanel was not allowed because it would not be completely inside the underlying surface.”

This happens on some houses but not others (not sure why).

Seen this before? Any help appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Marc

Can you send me some of the malfunctioning models? I can take a look.

I know why. After you import the DAE file, you will need to drag the foundation underlying it so that it supports the file. This is not automated, unfortunately. Once you drag it like shown in the attached image, you should be able to add solar panels.

I am glad that helped. If you also include the texture file in the folder, the house can have textures in Energy3D, too.
